Schalke are weighing up a move for Rennes star Jonathan Pitroipa, French daily L’Equipe has learned.
The Miners are on the lookout for an attacking midfielder after Michel Bastos’ loan deal expired and they are reportedly hot on the trail of the Burkina Faso international.
Schalke are hoping to sign the player on a season-long loan with an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
However, with Pitroipa regarded as a key member of the side at Stade de la Route de Lorient, it remains to be seen whether his current employers will be interested in such an arrangement.
The 27-year-old, who has two years left on his deal with les Bretons, joined Rennes from Hamburger two years ago and has been in scintillating form ever since.
Pitroipa has made a total of 68 Ligue 1 appearances for the club, managing 14 goals and as many assists in the process.
