Platini goes too far. He’s got to go.

I know other people have written about this and it is old news but I felt I had to put my opinion about the great Michel Platini and his comments about Arsene Wenger.

For those who don’t know, Platini has launched what the League Managers Association refer to as an astonishing attack on the Arsenal manager.

Like many others within the game, Wenger spoke recently about the need for technology to be used in football, particularly in relation to goal line decisions. For some reason, the man in charge of Uefa seems to have taken that as a personal insult.

About goal line technology, Platini said, “I would be overjoyed that Arsene Wenger never gets to see video replays. If we start using videos, there will be no referees left in 10 years.”

He went on to say, “Me, I only want to talk about football, Wenger only cares about business. We must shut up about Wenger and everything.”

He even turned Cluj’s wonderful victory in Rome into an insult for Wenger. “The fact that Cluj beat Roma is very interesting, don’t you think? This is the beauty of the game, where small teams beat big teams, something Wenger does not like because it is not a business approach.”

I am not a big fan of Arsene Wenger, but these comments from Platini are outrageous. He should apologise immediately or he should leave his post. He was a wonderful footballer but in my opinion he is not fit to hold the office that he holds.

Enough is enough. Platini speaks ill of all things English and it has to stop. Arsene Wenger is one of the best managers in the game and anyone who watches his first team play, or his youngsters, will see teams playing the beautiful game how it should be played. He does not deserve to be spoken about in such derrogatory terms by a man in a position of authority.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you just said, Graham, and I am grateful that you put yourself and the website out there in condemning Platini. Platini was undoubtedly a great footballer, but he is not fit to control UEFA, especially when he has such a deep running hatred with one of its strongest members, England. Arsene Wenger is the best manager in the world, he keeps his team in the title chase and keeps his club in the black. This makes him more of a manager than anyone else in my opinion. Platini is clearly lacking in intelligence if he believes that goal line technology and instant replay will one day replace referees, and obviously doesn’t know much about Wenger, either, if he believes he does not care about football. Wenger’s entire life is nothing but football.
