According to the Daily Express, Portsmouth hope to sign Reading’s Nicky Shorey and Tottenham’s Younes Kaboul before Sunday’s FA Community Shield match against Manchester United at Wembley.
Reading manager Steve Coppell expects Shorey to secure a move back to the Barclays Premier League in the next few days. After rebuffing a £4 million bid from West Ham last season it appears inevitable that Shorey will leave as Coppell has said: “To be fair to Nicky, he has made it clear from this time last year that he would prefer to leave and ply his trade elsewhere.”
It is important to note that Aston Villa have also been linked with the 27 year old who also has 2 international caps to his name; especially since the loss of their Dutch defender Wilfred Bouma through injury.
French centre-back Kaboul also remains firmly in Redknapp’s sights. He seems far more likely to join Pompey as he recently rejected a move to Sunderland. The 22 year old is said to prefer a move to Portsmouth.
