Richard Dunne has entered the final year of his contract and has the possibility of leaving Manchester City for greener pastures. The strong centre-back was thought to be looking for a new challenge after having spent the past eight seasons in Manchester, but now he looks set to sign a contract extension.
Portsmouth, however, will hope that they can still tempt the player to move south, according to the Manchester Evening News. The report claims that Dunne is currently on vacation but that he has given Mark Hughes the impression that he would like to stay at the club.
Manchester City’s latest contract offer would double the player’s wages to about £56,000 per week, according to the same report, but Portsmouth’s pockets are knee-deep. The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Redknapp was set to offer Dunne £75,000 per week.
According to the report in the Manchester Evening News, Dunne could buy out the rest of the contract, should Manchester City be reluctant to sell. According to the article, a FIFA regulation allows players aged 28 or over to buy out the last year of their deal.

Richard Dunne isn’t going to leave Man City. He has had great years there so far, he has a new Manager who’s ‘up for it’, he has a Chairman who’s bonkers but has loads of cash for players, and around him already he has Ireland, Johnson, Richards, Petrov, Elano, Hamann, Bojinov, Vassell etc, with the next week probably seeing at least three internationals joining the squad, including Jo
( Brazil ), Milito ( Argentina ), and possibly Crouch or other international players, including wright Phillips. WP up one wing and Petrov up the other would be a fab pairing. Sorry Portsmouth, it won’t happen.
