Poyet keen on Borini return

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has said that he would be keen to re-sign Fabio Borini from Liverpool, according to Sky Sports.

The one-time Italy international impressed in a year-long loan spell at the Stadium of Light last season, making forty-appearances in all competitions and scoring ten goals including the opener in the Capital One Cup final defeat to Manchester City back in March.

The 23 year-old has started just one league game under Brendan Rodgers so far this season, and was not included in the match-day squad that drew 0-0 with the Black Cats at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

That result stretched Sunderland’s winless run to five games, and leaves them just two points above the relegation zone ahead of Saturday’s home match against high-flying West Ham United.

The North East side, who finished in fourteenth place last season, can be backed at 3/1 to be relegated this time around.
