Napoli concluded their two-week training camp at Dimaro with a 3-0 victory in a friendly against newly promoted Serie B side Carpi.
The Serie A outfit have been very active on the transfer market in recent weeks signing Raul Albiol, Jose Callejon and Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid.
Only Callejon featured in the friendly against Carpi, although both his and his team’s performance were hindered by a rain storm that made the pitch unplayable.
Napoli fielded a strong side in the first half and they took an early lead after Goran Pandev dribbled his way through the Carpi defence and finished with ease.
It was not long before Napoli got their second, Pandev this time grabbing the assist as he crossed the ball into the box for Valon Behrami to tap into an empty net.
Blerim Dzemaili got Napoli’s third from a low free-kick that snuck in after going under the wall and off the post.
The weather then turned for the worse with the match suspended at the beginning of the second half due to torrential rain.
The referee attempted to restart the match but the flooded pitch meant the game was suspended once more.
Eventually the rain stopped and there was time for new signing Dries Mertens to win a penalty for his side.
Emanuele Calaio stepped up to take the spot-kick but he sent his shot wide.
Rafa Benitez’s men will now look ahead to a friendly against Galatasaray before they head to London to take part in the Emirates Cup.
