Atdhe Nuhiu enhanced his chances of earning a deal at Crystal Palace after scoring in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Dagenham and Redbridge.
The former Austria Under-21 international, who is training with the Premier League club after leaving Rapid Vienna, broke the deadlock in the pre-season friendly against the League Two side before Owen Garvan added a second from the penalty spot.
Medy Elito pulled one back for the home side with a second-half spot-kick of his own, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Palace prepare for life back in the top flight.
Palace, promoted to the Premier League after an eight-year absence, used the fixture to field a number of young players and trialists.
It paid off for them with the opening goal coming from 23-year-old Nuhiu following an assist from fellow trialist and former Arsenal man Quincy Owusu-Abeyie.
Ian Holloway will be buoyed by the performances of the likes of Nuhiu and Owusu-Abeyie as well the composure shown by Garvan when he tucked away a penalty that was conceded by Afolabi Obafemi 11 minutes after the break.
Any hopes of a Palace clean-sheet ended after 19-year-old Quade Taylor was judged to have chopped down Dagenham’s Zavon Hines in the box and the spot-kick was skilfully converted by 23-year-old Elito.
Palace opted not to include new signing Jose Campana in the squad for the match but he may feature in their second friendly at Gillingham on Tuesday.
