The New York Red Bulls and Lyon have played out a 2-2 draw in a club friendly in New Jersey.

The Ligue 1 club went ahead by virtue of a fourth-minute own goal from Red Bulls defender Jamison Olave.

The MLS club hit back via Dax McCarty’s strike from just inside the area on 31 minutes.

The hosts at Red Bull Arena then took the lead when forward Andre Akpan was on target from a cross in from winger Lloyd Sam just past the hour mark.

The French giants were not to be denied, though, as Yoann Gourcuff equalised with 15 minutes to play.

Both sides are back in action on Saturday – the Red Bulls travel to take on Toronto in MLS, while Lyon return home to continue their pre-season campaign when they play K-League club Jeonbuk Motors.
