The French league will come to an end this weekend with the final series of Ligue 1 games and as it stands, things couldn’t be tighter at the top. While PSG have been able to run away with the title, Lyon’s Champions League hopes rest on whether or not they can hold off Marseille, whereas Nice will just want to try and cling onto their own spot in the Europa League.

Lyon

Lyon were once considered to be one of the bright sparks in European football, and while they’ve done well in the league this season, their squad pales in comparison to what they had available a few years ago. They need to get their heads down and focus on the task at hand against Nice, which is ensuring that they are a Champions League team next season.

Team News

Mariano is a doubt but Marcelo is set to return.

Nice

Nice were looked upon as potential title contenders not too long ago, but this season, they’ve fallen away from the pack quite dramatically. In order for them to even compete in the Europa League next year, they’ll need to make some serious readjustments in order to hold off the surge of Lyon. It’ll be difficult, but there’s a lot on the line for them.

Team News

Pierre Lees-Melou and Christophe Jallet are both out.

Factors to Consider

  • Lyon have won their last five home league games.
  • Nice have scored 51 league goals this season, whereas Lyon have scored 84.
  • Lyon and Nice have both drawn nine league games this season.
  • Lyon are coming off of a loss, and Nice are coming off of a win.
  • Nice have won just two of their last six games.

Conclusion

While the pressure will certainly be on Lyon’s shoulders this weekend, we think they’ll be able to handle it against a Nice side that also have a lot to play for. We wouldn’t be surprised to see a draw, but our official prediction is 1-0 Lyon.

Prediction: Lyon win

Best Odds: 7/15
