Verdict: Manchester City to win and both teams to score

Best Odds: 6/4

In what is looking like the most eye-catching game of the Champions League so far, Manchester City will be welcoming Napoli to the Etihad on Tuesday night. Both sides are currently in sublime form and each team sits atop of their respective leagues, with only one loss between them this season, it has all the makings of a fantastic game for the neutrals.

Manchester City

Earlier this month, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was named as September’s Manager of the Month and it’s hard to find someone who will disagree with the announcement. This season, City have raced to the top of the Premier League table and Guardiola’s side are yet to lose a single match in any competition thus far.

Entering Tuesday nights clash with Napoli, Manchester City are coming off the back of demolishing Stoke 7-2 on Saturday and moving onto nine consecutive victories. It’s not just in the league where City have shone tho, the sky blues currently sit top of Group F and have already dispatched of Shakhtar Donetsk and Feynord without conceding a single goal in either matchup.

For City, they have been in ruthless form in front of goal so far, in their 10 combined appearances in Europe and the league, City have already found the net 35 times, scoring 17 in the last three appearances at the Etihad.

Team News

It looks like more good news for City fans, this morning Pep Guardiola hinted that joint top scorer Sergio Aguero could feature from the start, having looked to have fully recovered from his car crash.

City are also expected to recall versatile defender Danilo to the team, the Brazilian international will be replacing the injured Benjamin Mendy. However, City will still be without their captain Vincent Kompany who is still sidelined due to injury.

Napoli

If there was one team that could rival City’s winning streak, that team would be Napoli. Gli Azzurri currently sit two points clear at the top of the Serie A table and Napoli currently boasts an eye-catching record of eight games, eight wins.

Napoli will no doubt be City’s toughest challenge in the competition so far. Like City, Napoli have been ruthless in the final third and their performances have shown why they sit top of Serie A. Last time out, Napoli were able to beat Roma 1-0 away from home and Saturday’s win extends their record to six wins on the bounce, and in their past six appearances, Napoli have managed to score 20 goals.

The Italian giants only blip so far this season as however come in the Champions League. On matchday one, Napoli struggled away at Shakhtar and came away with a 2-1 loss, the only time they have tasted defeat so far this season. But, the boys in blue were quick to respond and looked in fine form as they blew away Feyenoord 3-1 last month.

Team News

Napoli only have one real injury concern, following Saturday’s victory over Roma, midfielder Jorinho suffered a knock and the Italian international looks set to be replaced by Marko Rog. Napoli will also be welcoming back experienced defender Raul Albiol, the former Madrid man will start in place of Nikola Maksimovic.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Napoli have scored in every game away from home this season
  • Both sides are unbeaten in the league this season
  • Manchester City are yet to concede in the competition this season
  • Napoli’s only loss this season came away in the Champions League
  • Both teams combined have already scored 65 goals this season

Conclusion

Although we will be seeing the best in England and the best in Italy battling it out, it looks like Manchester City should have the quality and confidence to come away with a third consecutive win in the Champions League. Despite their outstanding record in Serie A, Napoli have already lost away at Shakhtar Donetsk and have shown that they can be vulnerable defensively and with City’s current scoring antics, we expect they should see off their Italian challenge.

But, don’t expect a landslide by any means, on their travels this season, Napoli are averaging nearly three goals a game and we expect them to at least nick a goal. Manchester City to win and both teams to score seems like a safe bet.

Verdict: Manchester City to win and both teams to score

Best Odds: 6/4
