Premier League giants battle for Zenit rebel; Hitzlsperger nears Everton switch

Premier League giants battle for Zenit rebel

Talksport has revealed that a number of Premier League giants are showing interest in Zenit midfielder Igor Denisov.

The Russia international criticized the club’s decision to sign Hulk and Axel Witsel on bumper deals, claiming the new signings now earned three times more than other Zenit players.

The midfielder has since been dropped from the squad, together with forward Alexander Kerzhakov.

Talksport claims that Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool all plan to take advantage of the situation and enter the bidding war for the highly rated midfielder in January.

The 28-year-old, who has spent his entire career at Zenit, is held in high regard by Europe’s top clubs and could decide to move on in the January transfer window.

Denisov has made a total of 238 league appearances for the Russian giants, scoring 23 goals in the process.

Hitzlsperger nears Everton switch

Former Aston Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger is training with Everton, the Merseyside club announced on their official website.

The former Germany international has been a free agent since leaving Wolfsburg at the end of last season and has now been given a chance to earn a contract with the Toffees.

“I have been very pleased with him,” assistant manager Steve Round said to club’s official website.

“Thomas is a long way off playing but we have given him the opportunity to come in and it is up to him now. We will assess him over the next couple of weeks.

“He seems a really good lad and I don’t think I have seen him without a smile on his face. What will determine whether he gets a contract is his fitness.”

Thomas Hitzlsperger came through the young ranks at Bayern Munich, but joined Aston Villa without making a single senior appearance for the Bavarians.

The German midfielder enjoyed several very good seasons at Villa Park before joining Stuttgart in the summer of 2005.

After leaving the Swabians in the winter of 2010, Hitzlsperger had spells with Lazio, West Ham and Wolfsburg.

Oscar Cardozo negotiating new Benfica deal

Portuguese newspaper Record understands that Benfica star Oscar Cardozo has already entered talks over a new deal at the club.

The Paraguayan has two years left on his deal at La Luz, but has seen his name linked with a number of high-profile sides in the summer transfer window.

The club chiefs seem to have resisted the temptation to cash in on their prized asset and are now eager to tie him to a new long-term deal.

Record reports that Cardozo’s agent, Pedro Aldave, met with Benfica chiefs last week to negotiate a new deal for his other client Lorenzo Melgarejo.

The representative used the opportunity to began negotiations over a new contract for the Paraguayan, the player who has the highest release clause in the squad – €60 million.

The 29-year-old proved to be one of the best signings in club’s history, having scored 92 goals in 139 league games for the Eagles.
