Premier League preview: Wolverhampton v Norwich

Just one point above relegation, Wolverhampton Wanderers host Norwich City in a midweek clash as Mick McCarthy eyes a vital three points.

Wolves had their three-game unbeaten streak at home broken in a 2-1 home loss to Stoke City over the weekend – their second straight loss overall.

Wolves have lost four of their last five games, with a lone victory coming at home two weeks ago in a 2-1 home win over Sunderland, meaning McCarthy will be desperate to get back to winning ways at Molineux.

McCarthy’s men were dominant in the first half at home and scored first before fading in the final 45 minutes against Stoke, hence the manager will be pressing his troops to keep their drive and tempo against Norwich.

“We need points at home and this is a huge game. Three points is what we need against Norwich, however we get it,” McCarthy told the club’s official website.

“We are more likely to get it if we play like we did in the first half (against Stoke) with that tempo. I thought the team were great yesterday and now we prepare for Tuesday.”

“Hopefully the result will be better.”

David Edwards and Jamie O’Hara both sat out the Stoke game with groin and calf injuries respectively and are likely to miss out again with Stephen Hunt and Nenad Milijas keeping their starting slots in their place.

Matt Jarvis was impressive again for Wolves against Stoke and will be counted on to add to his three assists this season against Norwich.

Norwich have collected seven points from their last four games and looked to have grabbed all three points with Grant Holt’s opener at Goodison Park over the weekend before a deflected goal earned the Canaries a 1-1 draw instead.

Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy has been a big part of Norwich’s success this season, sometimes singlehandedly keeping Norwich in the game with his saves.

“We’ve a big game on Tuesday against Wolves,” Ruddy said.

“We’ve not got much time to get prepared for it, but we know it’s about keeping ourselves in tip-top shape and making sure we go out and show the same level of commitment we have done so far.”

Holt’s goal was his sixth in eight games and with his telepathic partnership with strike partner Steve Morison yielding six goals for the Welshman, manager Paul Lambert will be looking to the duo to wreak havoc against Wolves.

Norwich, who are ninth, have won two of their last home games, beating Newcastle United 4-2 and Queens Park Rangers 2-1 and while losing at home to Arsenal and away at Manchester City.

The Canaries have racked up their wins against sides on the lower half of the table this campaign, and will be looking to grab all three points at Wolves after coming close to stealing the points at Everton.
