Who's Hot and Who's Not?
This is a phrase that I never thought I would see myself writing. The Hot keeper this week is Tottenham’s Heurelho Gomes!
Tottenham were lucky to beat Sunderland and they had their erratic keeper to thank for several fine saves including one from a penalty. He was extremely good and I don’t think he did one bizarre or silly thing in the whole game.
Thomas Sorensen won’t be happy that he didn’t deal better with Jimmy Bullard’s last minute shot. The rebound ended up in the back of the net and Stoke became one of those rare teams who lose to Hull.
He has had an awful lot of justified criticism this season so far but Carvalho was back to doing what he does best for Chelsea yesterday. He made some great blocks, great tackles, great headers, great clearances and some surging forward runs.
He has been a top rate defender and he showed yesterday that he can still do it.
Joleon Lescott was truly terrible for Manchester City and on any other week he would have done more than enough to get this award. Luckily for him, his team-mate Wayne Bridge was even worse!
The England man had the proverbial nightmare.
Aston Villa are a good side, of that there is no doubt. However, they weren’t great at West Ham in their mid-week defeat and were then very good in their thrashing of Bolton on Saturday.
One player missing in mid-week and playing on Saturday was James Milner. He is beginning to deliver on the great promise he showed as a youngster. Don’t bet against him playing a significant role for England in South Africa next summer.
OK, Chelsea won the game against Manchester United and they are clear at the top and must be hot favourites for the title but can anyone explain what has happened to Deco?
This man was a world class player in his time at Barcelona and Porto but now he looks a shadow of his former self. The Chelsea fans were screaming for him to be replaced by Joe Cole.
It is a real shame that a player of his undoubted class has just failed to make any real sort of impact in the Premier League.
He has always scored goals and he has always been a real handful for defences. Blackburn’s Jason Roberts struggles to get a regular first team place, yet when he plays he looks good.
He came on as a substitute at half-time on Saturday with his side 1-0 down. He scored two real striker’s goals and turned the game around. He is deserving of the award.
I feel bad about this as he is a really good prospect but West Ham’s young striker Zavon Hines had enough chances to win two games in the dismal game against Everton yesterday and he is my award winner in this category this week.
He is a good young player but West Ham found out just how much they will miss Carlton Cole.
Chelsea will feel that they deserve this award but I have to say that I didn’t think they really deserved their win yesterday and I didn’t think they played terribly well.
The award has to go to the Arsenal side who are looking more likely title contenders as each week passes. They are the real deal and have made it to second place in the table just five points behind Chelsea with a game in hand.
They were superb at times against Wolves and the goal that Fabregas scored was football of the highest quality.
This is a tough one to choose between Bolton and Portsmouth. Pompey’s mini-revival came to a sad end in their 3-1 defeat at Blackburn and they remain at the foot of the table.
However, I have to give the award to Bolton who defended as badly as I have seen any team defend in the top league. Gary Megson said that was the worst he has seen Bolton play and let’s be honest, that is saying quite a lot!

It a good thing you didnt say CFC was the hot team. I would be (expletive) with you if you had. From what I heard, the Blues were lucky to so much as score.
