Barcelona ace Carlos Puyol has heaped praise on Lionel Messi for the way the Argentine star has played this season.

“He is a spectacular player, there is nobody else like him. I should not because I have suffered so much in training,” he told TV3.

“I think he is the best forward at the moment and I think he will be so for many more years. He has his feet on the ground.”

Puyol also defended former team-mate Ronaldinho, when he was asked whether they played better without the Brazilian forward.

“It is a bit strong to say that because he was a star both on and off the pitch and always lifted us. It is not fair to treat him badly now,” Puyol said.

“When things did not people started to focus only on him and that was not good because we do win as a team and lose as a team.”
