Barcelona defender Carles Puyol has undergone surgery to repair a knee problem.
The Barca captain, who missed the majority of their title-winning campaign because of injury, is now expected to miss the start of pre-season training in July.
Tito Vilanova’s men were still able to clinch the the club’s 22nd La Liga crown by 15 points from Real Madrid despite Puyol’s struggles.
However, news of his setback will be of concern to to a side whose defence struggled in the UEFA Champions League.
Dr Richard Pruna, who oversaw the procedure, described the procedure to remove a cyst as “routine”.
Puyol made just 22 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona last term, scoring two goals.
