QPR and Sunderland battling to bring in Vargas

Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland are battling to secure the services of Chile international Eduardo Vargas, according to the Metro.

The 24 year old, who scored for his country in their 2-0 victory over Spain in the group stages at this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil, is set to move away from Napoli on loan for the 2014/15 campaign.

He spent the second half of last season at Valencia, where he scored five goals in twenty-five appearances in all competitions while he also had a temporary spell at Brazilian side Gremio in 2013.

Arsenal, who signed Vargas’ international teammate Alexis Sanchez earlier in the summer, had been linked with the forward though they are no longer in the running.

QPR lost their opening game of the season to FA Cup winners Hull City, while Sunderland drew at West Bromwich Albion, and both sides will be hoping to bolster their attack ahead of their meeting on August 30th.
