After their disappointing performance against Cyprus, defending world champions Italy delivered a slightly more convincing display against Georgia in their second qualifier.
Daniele De Rossi opened the score after seventeen minutes, after which it took Lippi’s men until late in the second half to actually decide the match.
With just two minutes to go in regular time, De Rossi netted his second after a combination with Alessandro del Piero.
With six points from two games, Italy lead in Group 8. Georgia lost both of their first two games and are placed last.
