(GSM) – The African Cup of Nations’ Group D clash between Tunisia and Gabon ended in a goalless draw between the two sides. The match, held in Lubango, keeps Gabon top of the group with 4 points while Tunisia lie second with 2 points.

Eric Mouloungui passed up two fine headed chances in the first half for Gabon. Meanwhile Amine Chermiti missed the best chance of the game for the Tunisians, mishitting a close shot after having rounded the goalkeeper.

The Tunisian defense as they found themselves under pressure for the majority of the opening stages, though the North Africans should have gone ahead just before the half-hour mark.

The uncertainty of Tunisia goalkeeper Aymen Mathlouthi prompted a succession of ambitious shots from distance, though without success.

A well-shot free-kick on the hour from Yassine Mikari triggered panic in the Gabon defence when Ovono spilled the ball, though the ‘keeper atoned for his error with a more convincing punch from he resultant corner.

Gabon’s offensive flow began to wane as the second half went on, while a ridiculous dive from Issam Jomaa was Tunisia’s reply.

This prompted Tunisia’s best attacking move of the game as a fine passing move sent Zouheir Dhaouadhi clear down the right, and he clipped an inviting ball across goal. However, Jomaa missed completely at the far post.

Cousin had a late penalty appeal turned down following a controversial challenge in the area from Ammar Jemel. Draw was the most likely result with neither of the two teams outplaying the other.
