Racing Club of Argentina have confirmed they are in negotiations to sign Genoa striker Lucas Pratto on a short-term deal.
Racing have seen approaches for Ismael Sosa, Juan Iturbe and Humberto Suazo all fail during January, while a further target, Alejandro Martinuccio, signed for Villarreal at the end of the European transfer window.
According to an unnamed Racing director, attention has now shifted to a potential 18-month loan deal for 23-year-old Pratto, who could be the latest addition to Alfio Basile’s team.
“We were offered Pratto and Basile liked the idea. We are considering (a bid),” the source told Ole on Tuesday evening.
“He could come on loan for a year and a half, with the option to buy.”
Pratto was signed by Genoa in August 2011 after impressing with Universidad Catolica, but has failed to reproduce his form in Italy, making only four starts in Serie A this season.
The Argentine striker is a product of the Boca Juniors youth system.
In addition to his loan spell at Universidad, he has also spent time with Tigre, Lyn Oslo and Union de Santa Fe.
