Rangel: Swansea won´t underestimate Southampton

Angel Rangel has called for focus from his Swansea team-mates as they prepare to face Premier League strugglers Southampton on Saturday.

The Swans lost a close-fought game to champions Manchester City before beating former boss Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool side convincingly 3-1 in the League Cup and, most recently, earning a deserved point against Chelsea in their last three outings.

And Rangel says he is looking for similar levels of focus despite facing a less prestigious side.

“The last few games was a big week of fixtures for us,” Rangel told the club’s official website. “We earned a lot of credit for the way we performed at Manchester City, while we did very well to win at a big club like Liverpool in the cup.

“Then we stood up to Chelsea and held the current Champions League holders.

“But now we have a very different game to prepare for. Southampton have not made the start they would have hoped for, but they are a team that will fight for everything against us.

“It will be as tough as the last few games, maybe even tougher because they are desperate to start moving themselves out of the bottom three.”

Southampton have conceded the second-highest number of goals after 10 games in Premier League history with 28 goals, but Rangel has pinpointed the selection of attacking talent available to boss Nigel Adkins who, the defender believes, are more than capable of troubling any side.

“Yes, they have conceded quite a few goals, but they have plenty of firepower that gets them goals too,” he said.

“There’s (Rickie) Lambert, (Jay) Rodriguez, (Gaston) Ramirez, (Adam) Lallana – these guys can punish you because they are dangerous in front of goal.

“So we’ll have the same attitude as if we were playing Manchester City, Liverpool or Chelsea.

“We want to keep building on our recent performances, and another good result on Saturday will help us move in the right direction.”
