Rangers condemn ´inappropriate´ chants

Rangers have issued a statement condemning the ‘inappropriate’ chanting of their fans during a 3-1 win at Berwick.

Rangers have issued a statement condemning the ‘inappropriate’ chanting of their fans during a 3-1 win at Berwick.

Northumbria Constabulary announced that two people had been arrested, and that further video footage would be investigated.

It is understood that the Ibrox club will assist in any further police inquiry.

A statement from Rangers said: “The club is disappointed by certain outbursts of inappropriate singing by a section of the support at Berwick.

“Our fans have been excellent this season both home and away and we do not want to see this tarnished.”

The Scottish Third Division leaders came from a goal down to beat Berwick Rangers 3-1, extending their unbeaten run to 18 league games.

Manager Ally McCoist told ESPN: “I didn’t know anything about it (the chanting) until I came in after the game.

“Our supporters have been nothing short of sensational home and away this season. If they were a little bit out of order today, I apologise.

“We don’t need it within the club or Scottish football. I’m very, very hopeful it’s a one-off and won’t happen again.

“I would be very hopeful it’s an isolated incident and we can move on.”

The police also offered praise to the majority of fans at the game.
