Speaking from Belgrade in Serbia today (Monday) Serbian coach of the Chinese Olympic soccer team Ratomir Dujkovic made it clear that he wished to win the Olympic title with his Chinese team.
In the draw on Sunday China was drawn with Brazil, New Zealand and Belgium in Group C.
Dujkovic was coach of Ghana in the 2006 World Cup and it was Brazil that knocked his team out in Round Two of the competition. During that match he was banished from his bench at half time. He faces another daunting task against the Brazilians in the same group as China. The top two teams in each group go through to the next round.
He said in an interview today that Chinese soccer needed a boost such as an Olympic Gold to set it onto the footballing world map and to take it to the next level.
Despite Chinese officials wanting him to lead China to the World Cup in South Africa in 2010, the sixty two year old former Red Star goalkeeper has stated emphatically that he wishes to retire at the end on the Beijing Olympics.
