Real Madrid announced Wednesday that midfielder Guti would miss Saturday’s ‘El Clasico’ against arch-rivals Barcelona due to injury.
“Jose Maria Gutierrez ‘Guti’ suffered a knock to his left ankle during Wednesday’s training session and has been ruled out of Saturday’s match against Barcelona,” it said in a statement.
He “will be looked at again by the medical team to determine how much time he will miss.”
Guti played in Real’s last two matches after being sidelined for several games by coach Juande Ramos.
The Spanish champions are already without injured Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder.
The Barcelona match could be crucial in deciding the league title this season, as Real are just four points behind the Catalan giants at the top of the table with just five matches to play.
