Real join the race to sign Cole

Real Madrid are keen on bringing Ashley Cole to the Bernabeu and are ready to go head-to-head with French big spenders Paris Saint Germain, Talk Sport reports.

Cole’s future at Chelsea has come under some doubt recently with the Blues having a policy to only offer a one-year-deal to players who are over the age of 30, something that the Englishman is not happy about.

This put PSG on high alert and they were preparing to sign the left-back on the cheap in the January transfer window. Should he move to Ligue 1, then Cole would link up with former manager Carlo Ancelotti.

However, Cole’s uncertainty has also caught the eye of Jose Mourinho and he is ready to hijack PSG’s bid with a £7 million move for him in January.

Real would love to bring someone of the 31-year-olds quality to the club and he is still regarded by many as the best left-back in the world.

With his current understudy, Ryan Bertrand signing a new five-year-deal at Stamford Bridge, it is thought that Cole could be ready to move on and face a new challenge.

Roberto Di Matteo does want the situation resolved though and will do all he can to keep his number three at the club.
