Spanish defender Sergio Ramos is flattered by reports linking the Real Madrid star with a move to Premiership champions Manchester United and admitted that he would “see what happens after Euro 2008”, according to The Independent.
Any move would surely take weeks of negotiations with current relationships between United and Madrid at an all time low due to the Cristiano Ronaldo saga. Some reports suggest that the only way Madrid would let Ramos leave the Santiago Bernabeu was if Ronaldo was involved in the deal.
Ramos has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for weeks and although the defender insists on focusing on Euro 2008 rather than any transfer speculation, Ramos did little to deny any speculation.
Ramos told Spanish press: “It is a good sign that big clubs are interested in me, but at the moment I am not considering anything. I have a good contract with Madrid and I am concentrating on the national team. When Euro 2008 finishes we will see what happens.”
Moreover, Ramos’ agent, Sergio Bravo, did little to play down the link. He said: “It’s true that on Monday I was in England, I have a good relationship with Manchester United.”
Any move for the Spanish star would possibly break the British transfer record, with Real Madrid unlikely to sell for less than the €27 million they paid for him. And with United unlikely to involve Ronaldo in any deal, a move for Ramos should be seen as the biggest transfer coup this summer.
