Portsmouth manager, Harry Redknapp, has warned Liverpool he will drop his interest in 27 year old, England international striker, Peter Crouch, unless Rafael Benítez lowers the £15m price tag.

The Guardian reports the Pompey boss as saying, “It’s known I like Crouchie but I think Liverpool want a bit too much money for him.”

Redknapp, who is prepared to bid £10m, also said. “If that’s the case, then we’ll move on to the next option.”

Crouch ended the 2006-07 season as Liverpool’s top goalscorer in all competitions, with 18 goals. However following a sterling debut season last year by Spanish international striker, Fernando Torres, he is reportedly seeking a move away from Anfield due to restricted opportunities.

    RAFA NEEDS TO OFFLOAD CROUCH
    HE CAN GO FR 10M
L.F.C. NEED MONEY SO BARGAINING TOO MUCH WOULD LEAD TO A COLLAPSE

Uh huh, Pompey have clearly stated, as the headline states, that Crouch is average. That must be why they want him in their team. The want more averageness yes? Harry can moan all he wants, and boy he has a lot lately, about Crouch’s price, but unless he meets an agreeable price with LFC nothing will happen. How much did Harry pay for that lad from Preston eh?

    Another hyped headline!

Where in the article does it say he’s average?? It actually points out the opposite in that he was top goal-scorer the previous season. And he’d 11 goals for 31 matches this season (majority of which he was a sub).
That’s not an ‘average striker’ and that’s why he’s worth more than an average price, 6m for Anton Ferdinand???

If he’s average, why would Portsmouth want him? Harry is just being a tosser. He may loose him to Villa if he doesn’t offer what Liverpool want. Which is probably 10m. He has bid 9m cos he knows he is going to have to haggle. Its old tabloid news that Liverpool wanted 15m. The sale of Crouch and Riise will pay for Barry.

When you put into persepctive some of the daft money being paid for average players then you realise that for 10m, Crouch is cheap.

I’m just surprised that Arsenal haven’t come in for him. He is far better technically than Adebeyor and always runs them ragged when he plays against them.

His weakness ironically is his ability in the air. If he had the heading ability of Shearer, he would be a 40 goals a season striker. He regularly misses at least one easy header a game.

Plus with Crouch, you do get the added bonus of being able to clear the ball away at corners at his own end. He has no problem winning headers, he just doesn’t put any power behind them or any real accuracy.

If Crouch is an average striker, would Redknapp even consider buying him? It’s exactly because he is class, and that he is every bit worth the 15m price tag. What does Redknapp hope to achieve with 9m. 9m can never get Portsmouth a good striker like Crouch. It only shows how low Redknapp values him and such a move with all those foolish comments will drive Crouch further away from the deal even if Liverpool accepts. Pay what he is worth and get it over with. In case Redknapp doesn’t know, they are not the only club interested. Please Rafa, don’t be held to ransom by that “friend-of-Fergie”!

Tell Villa that when it comes to Barry then.

We bought Crouch for around 7million pounds.

    Since he arrived:

    - he was the top scorer for Liverpool 06/07.
    - he was the top scorer for England 06/07.
    - he was 2nd top scorer in Champions League behind Kaka 06/07

He has been involved in Champs League football for 3 years.

If people honestly believe that Crouch is just average then they are foolish.
Having bought him for 7million - then I would only accept no less than 14million.

Geez, even Bent was sold for about 17million.

Crouch is essential at liverpool they should’nt sell him he does wonders for the club with his hight. He causes many dangers in the air

Got something to say?
