Nigeria forward Nwankwo Kanu is set to sign a new one year contract with FA Cup winners Portsmouth according to manager Harry Redknapp.
Although Kanu – who scored the goal that gave Pompey a 1-0 win over Cardiff in the FA Cup final – made the number of appearances required to earn him a new contract offer, reports in Nigeria suggested he was holding out for a two-year deal.
The recent arrivals at Portsmouth of strikers Peter Crouch and Ben Sahar had cast further doubt over the 31-year-old's future.
But Redknapp told The News: “Peter (Storrie, the chief executive) is sorting it out. As far as I know he's going to sign for another year and I want to keep him here.
“He's a good player, he's still got a part to play and gives you something different.”
