Redknapp hopeful of keeping Remy

QPR manager Harry Redknapp says he is desperate to keep French striker Loic Remy despite the club’s impending relegation.

Redknapp’s side – who lie 19th in the table, 10 points adrift of safety – will be relegated from the Premier League if they lose at fellow strugglers Reading on Sunday.

Despite a raft of big earners on the club’s wage bill, including Remy, Chris Samba and Julio Cesar, QPR say they will not be forced to sell their best players with wealthy chairman Tony Fernandes set to bankroll the Loftus Road outfit again.

Whether those players will want to stay is another matter, and Remy, who has netted five goals in 10 Premier League appearances, is likely to be the subject of interest from many clubs.

The 26-year-old only joined in January, signing a four-year contract after QPR paid French outfit Marseille eight million pounds to secure his services.

“He’s been great. He’s a player that I think could score 20 Premier League goals in a full season,” Redknapp said of Remy.

“He’s come here and played a handful of games but he is our leading goal-scorer. It will be difficult [to keep him].

“We’d like to keep him obviously but we have to sit down and see what his plans are.”

Ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Madejski Stadium, Redknapp urged his team to keep fighting, adding that he was already thinking about which players would be part of his side next season.

He said: “We’ve got to keep going. It’s a difficult situation. We’ve trained hard all week. We want to go and play well on Sunday. I’m looking at people with next year in mind.”

QPR will be without Andros Townsend on Sunday, with the Tottenham loanee suffering a slight hamstring injury, while creative midfielder Adel Taarabt is also in doubt.
“Andros picked up a bit of a hamstring,” Redknapp said.

“He’s gone back to Tottenham for treatment. We hope he’ll be available for the Arsenal game. There’s every chance he’ll be available for that game. He’s gone back for treatment – that’s normal.

“Adel has got a shoulder injury. We have to wait and see.”
