QPR manager Harry Redknapp says that he feels sorry for West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie after his transfer to west London fell through.

The Nigerian international made the trip to Loftus Road to force through a transfer, but it was revealed his club had not given him permission to speak to QPR and he was refused entry.

Redknapp told Sky Sports News: “I feel sorry for the lad and the way things have turned out.

“I think he was advised that he should turn up, that the club had made an offer and it was accepted. I think the wires must have got crossed somewhere.”

QPR were busy on deadline day, signing Christopher Samba from Anzhi Makhachkala and Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townsend from Tottenham Hotspur – the latter on a loan deal.

Redknapp was delighted to have been able to replace Ryan Nelsen, who has joined Toronto FC as player-manager.

He added: “We lost a fantastic centre-half in Ryan Nelsen but bought another top one in Christopher Samba.

“That was good for us as it was going to be difficult to replace Ryan.

“Other than that, the other deals have been already”
