Redknapp slams QPR players

QPR manager Harry Redknapp has questioned the motivation of his players and suggested his squad is overrated.

Defeat at Everton on Saturday left QPR 10 points from safety, prompting Redknapp to accuse his players of lacking the mental qualities required for
a relegation battle.

“You say we have talented players but are they that talented? I don’t know really,” he told reporters.

“You
have some experienced players but what you need is a good group of
characters, a good group of people together and you have not got any
problems when you have that.”

The London club’s seemingly
unavoidable relegation is expected to trigger an exodus from the club,
but Redknapp has dismissed those suggestions and believes the
Championship is the right level for many of his players.

“It’s not a case of players wanting to leave suddenly,” Redknapp said.

“I hear that all the time that if they get relegated they want to go because they don’t want to play in the Championship.

“But if they played better they would not be in the Championship so that’s a load of cobblers.”

Chairman
Tony Fernandes has previously insisted the club’s finances are under
control, but with many QPR players on high wages that could dissuade
interest from other teams, Redknapp concedes the playing roster may be
difficult to shake up in the event of relegation.

“Players won’t
go,” Redknapp said. “How are you going to get rid of them? They all have
contracts. I wish you could say players would leave but it isn’t going
to happen.

“Who is going to pay them what they’re earning here? It’s going to be hard to shift them.”
