Referee calls off Motherwell clash

Motherwell’s home clash against Dundee United in the Scottish Premier League was postponed on Tuesday due to an unplayable pitch.

Referee Stephen Finnie inspected the pitch one hour before the expected kick-off time, however the playing surface at Fir Park was waterlogged, hence the postponement of the fixture.

Finnie said the match was only called off once every chance was given for it to go ahead.

“There was one problem area over on the right-hand side when I was doing my first inspection,” he said.

“When we went back on at 17.45pm, on the area concerned before, the ball was not bouncing at all or running through it.

“So that becomes an immediate danger to the players and the game, so there was no option (but to postpone the match) I’m afraid.

“When we took the teams over and showed them what the ball was doing there was no argument at all.”

Motherwell are third in SPL on 37 points, while Dundee are seventh on 30.
