Franck Ribery said he was happy for the whole club after helping Bayern Munich to win the UEFA Champions League on Saturday.
The Frenchman was suspended as Bayern lost the final to Inter Milan in 2010, and played as they were beaten by Chelsea on penalties in front of their own fans last year.
They made up for those painful losses by beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at Wembley Stadium, with Ribery delighted to end the team’s long wait for a first Champions League crown since 2001.
“I’m happy for the team and the whole club, for (Karl-Heinz) Rummenigge and (Ulrich) Hoeness and our fans,” he said, referring to the chief executive and president.
“We have waited so long for this cup so we are really happy now. I think we have done so well this season. We still have one more match and title to go for and we are aiming to win it.
“I’m here for six years now and I feel like a child or young man at Bayern. I don’t have many words to share, me and my family are enjoying (life) at this club. Last year was pretty hard after losing. This season was great but this is football.”
Bayern captain Philipp Lahm said his team had improved every year and learned from both previous losses.
“You have to see it from many different views, how the team has progressed, worked and developed in the last few years,” he said.
“From 2010, losing the final we reached and how that was a bit lucky, and then last year’s final were we played great but missed out and lost on penalties, to now where we finally ended up winning.
“Although we had a huge blow again after it went to 1-1 as we conceded a penalty. But the guys showed a great reaction and created huge chances, we missed a few chances to score but finally we sealed the victory.
“Of course we were nervous, we have been under pressure after being in the final for the third time and losing two of them.
“Plus we were facing a German team, the pressure was enormous, you could see that pressure on our team. But after the first 20 minutes we improved and played much better, created better chances in the first and second half.”
