Two sides that are battling it out for top spot in the Copa Libertadores Group D, on Thursday night River Plate will welcome Flamengo to Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti.

For Marcelo Gallardo’s River Plate side, despite many believing that The Millionaires would fail to make the Top Four in the Argentina Superliga, the hosts have hit a remarkable run of form and with their spot in the knockout stages of this years Copa Libertadores already confirmed, River Plate will enter Thursday’s clash as a clear favorite. Coming off the back of a 2-0 win at home to San Lorenzo, The White and Reds are now unbeaten in their last 16 outings in all competitions, a run the goes back to February. More impressively, now just three points adrift of jumping into the Top Four in Argentina, River Plate have now kept a clean sheet in nine of their last 10 and are unbeaten at home in their last 11.

As for Big Mengo, although Flamengo are also running along nicely under interim boss Maurício Barbieri and have now lost just 1 of their 11 games under their new boss, The Red and Blacks face a far sterner test on Thursday night. Coming off the back of a 1-1 draw with Vasco da Gama over the weekend, while Flamengo may sit second of Brazil’s Serie A, the visitors have now only managed to win one of their last four and have struggled on the road in this years Copa Libertadores. While Flamengo have also secured their spot in the last 16, the visitors have lost 7 of their last 10 Libertadores away games.
