River Plate eyeing Mati Fernandez

Argentine giants River Plate are hot on the trail of Fiorentina midfielder Matias Fernandez, Fox Radio can reveal.

The Millionaires believe the Chilean footballer would seriously improve their creative department and they hope to secure his signature at the earliest opportunity.

The 30-year-old was loaned to AC Milan last summer, but then missed the start of the season through injury and only featured in five Serie A games since returning into action.

This means that the Rossoneri are unlikely to exercise the purchase option and with his deal at Artemio Franchi due to expire in June 2018, Viola would probably consider his sale.

Matias Fernandez represented Villarreal, Sporting CP, Fiorentina and AC Milan since leaving native Chile, but he never quite managed to realise his full potential.

Having endured several difficult years in Italian Serie A, the experienced footballer may be ready to return to South America.
