Rojas ignores transfer talk

Melbourne Victory young gun Marco Rojas says he is determined speculation about his future does not affect his performances.

Speaking on Tuesday, New Zealand international Rojas was coy when asked about a potential move away from Victory during the A-League transfer window.

“I’m aware of it (the transfer speculation). I’m speaking to the people I need to speak to go through that process and when I’m ready I’ll make a decision about my future,” he said.

“I don’t know what’s happening at the moment I’m still processing that with the people close to me and we’ll come to a decision when I think I’ve made the right one and we’ll go from there.

“It is exciting but you’ve got to focus on what you’re doing now because if you get too hyped up about what’s happening around there it can affect your football and I’ve got to make sure it doesn’t do that.”

After a disappointing season last year, Rojas has blossomed under the tutelage of Ange Postecoglou, scoring ten goals and developing a deadly relationship with fellow forward Archie Thompson.

His efforts have seen him rewarded with the December nomination for the NAB Young Footballer of the Year, but Rojas insists he still has plenty of developing to do.

“There’s a lot of improvement (left to go). There’s always a lot of improvement,” he said following an intense training session at Gosch’s Paddock.

“I’m nowhere near the finished product. As long as I keep focused and keep practicing and keep wanting to improve I’m sure I’ll get a lot better.”

The A-League may not be able to enjoy Rojas’ talents for much longer however with speculation mounting that the winger will move overseas at season’s end.

With eleven games remaining in the season the third-placed Victory are determined to chase down the league-leading Central Coast, despite playing out a disappointing 1-1 draw with the Mariners in Launceston last Saturday.

And despite expectations from fans, Rojas is not feeling any pressure to perform on a personal level nor does he feel his teammates should be particularly worried despite the fact they trail the Mariners by seven points.

“We were probably a bit unlucky not to win the last game so we need to start winning games and we’ve got eleven left so there is plenty of games left as long as we pick up the three points,” he said.

“No there’s no pressure (on me). I mean, I’m doing what I love to do there’s no pressure in doing that. Of course, we have to do well for the fans and for the club so we’ll keep trying to do that but there’s no added pressure. It doesn’t take a toll on me,” Rojas said.
