Roma have released a statement which conflicts with reports they are in talks with in-demand defender Marquinhos over a new contract.
The 18-year-old Brazilian has displayed maturity beyond his years by establishing himself as a regular for Roma this season, making 26 appearances since switching from Corinthians.
Consequently, rumours of Barcelona interest in the youngster were rife, as were reports that Roma were in the process of tying him to a new, long-term deal.
But the Italian giants took the unusual step of issuing a statement about a player’s contract in a bid to stop the speculation.
It read: “AS Roma wish to announce that there are no negotiations underway for the renewal of Marcos Aoas Correa’s (Marquinhos) contract, which is set to expire in 2017.
“Furthermore, the player has not made any such request on the matter.”
