Roma step up interest in Balanta

Italian giants AS Roma are set to launch a fresh assault on River Plate defender Eder Balanta, according to Tuttosport.

The Giallorossi are a bit short of options at the back after Leonardo Castan picked up a difficult injury and they look set to rekindle their interest in the Colombian centre-back.

Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini is set to open talks with River Plate that could see Balanta arrive at Stadio Olimpico in the New Year.

The 21-year-old is widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in South America and he is already an important part of the Colombia national team.

Balanta has recently lost his place in the starting line-up at Estadio Monumental, and it appears the Argentine giants are ready to cash in on their prized asset.

The talented defender has come through the youth ranks at River Plate and has featured in 40 league matches so far.
