Players of the Romanian national team have turned down a bonus, that would have been given if they manage to reach the next round at the upcoming European Championships.
Steaua president Gig Becali offered the players a 500,000 Euros bonus if they achieved that goal.
But captain Christian Chivu reacted saying that the players “represent their country. That’s what they want to win for. They’re not doing it for bonuses”.
As for the financial aspect, Chivu expects that a good performance will pay off in any case: “If we play well at the EC, that’ll lead to lucrative contracts for our players abroad.”
Romania share a tough group with World Cup finalists Italy and France, and the Netherlands.
