Brazilian star Ronaldinho is set to discuss a renewal of his deal with Atletico Mineiro in the coming week.
The 32-year-old has been linked with a move to Fluminense and Santos after his impressive performances in recent months, but his club have acted quickly to ensure the attacker stays put.
Ronaldinho’s brother and agent, Roberto Assis, refrained from making an official announcement, but said talks were going smoothly.
“I cannot confirm the renewal, but here he has the conditions to stay and this is the feeling in the air,” Assis told Lancenet.
“The relationship is very good and we have all the prerequisites to renew.
“I do not know if it will be two years, three, four, or a lifetime. Let us discuss calmly, with tranquillity, he is happy at the club. We have a meeting set for next week.
“The year is not over for him. He is focusing on his next two matches for Atletico which will shape the season.”
Ronaldinho is said to still be hopeful of making his way back into the Brazil squad and it has been speculated that the guarantees of playing time at Atletico Mineiro is the reason he does not want to leave the club.
