Ronaldo needs two goals for Real century

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo will hit his century for the club on Wednesday if he scores two goals against Villarreal at the Bernabeu.

Marca.com reports that Ronaldo has scored 98 goals in all competitions since his arrival from Manchester United in 2009.

It has taken the Portuguese 102 games, or 8,634 minutes of football to reach the 98-goal mark and a brace against Villarreal will see him hit 100.

Ronaldo has scored 76 in La Liga – seven less than the great Brazilian forward Ronaldo who hit 83 during his time at the Spanish club.

The 26-year-old has netted 14 times in the Champions League, and there have been seven goals in the Copa del Rey and one in the Supercopa. His goals per game ratio is 0.96.

Ronaldo’s feat is astonishing compared to his time at Manchester United. It took him 253 games to reach his century at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi says his side will fight for every ball against Real Madrid and that they can turn their poor start to the season around.

The Yellow Submarine have made a disappointing start to the 2011-12 campaign, winning only one game out of eight in La Liga.

Yet, despite their poor form, the Italy international believes they are capable of securing a positive result at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“We’re on a (downward) spiral and (this) is something we have to change,” the 24-year-old told AS.

“Now we face one of the best teams in the world and we must find a way to put them (under) pressure. We must show that Villarreal are still a great team.”

“Together we can overcome this situation, and I think the team should have more confidence.”

“We will fight for every ball as if it is our last. (We have) to try to keep the ball and be ourselves. I think (this is) the only way we can succeed,” he said.

Before the game in the Spanish capital, Juan Carlos Garrido’s men sit 16th in the standings, which Rossi finds frustrating.

“I am very angry that we are down there. We do not want to be there. The lucky [thing] is that we’ve only played eight league games and there is time to change it; we are very motivated to change it,” he said.
