Hat-trick hero Cristiano Ronaldo hailed a dream start to Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League campaign after a 6-1 win over Galatasaray.
The 28-year-old scored a second-half treble to clinch the impressive victory, adding to a goal from Isco and a Karim Benzema double.
Galatasaray striker Umut Bulut found the back of the net to grab a consolation for the Turks with six minutes to play, but the night belonged to Ronaldo.
“Things couldn’t have started better for us,” he said.
“Scoring six goals is really good and will give us a lot of confidence.
“We wanted to start well against a good team who showed their ability in the first 20 minutes, they created chances.”
Carlo Ancelotti’s men did, however, suffer an injury concern early on when goalkeeper Iker Casillas hobbled off after clashing with defender Sergio Ramos, but Ronaldo is not too worried about the Spaniard.
“It was bad luck for Iker (Casillas), he took a knock to his side but he will recover quickly,” he added.
