Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo won the European Footballer of the Year Award here on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Portuguese star is the first from his country to win the coveted ' Ballon D'Or ' award which is given by 'France Football' since Luis Figo in 2000.

His award - which he has widely spoken about having said in the last week that not only is he the best footballer in the world but also the second and third best - comes on the back of exceptional performance for his club side last season.

He scored a remarkable 42 times in 49 matches as United secured a memorable league and European Cup double.

However, Spaniard Fernando Torres can feel hard done by as he scored a lot of great goals for Liverpool in the Premiership and the only goal in the Euro 2008 final against Germany.

Way to go, ronaldo! He deserves this award and the FIFA Player of the year award too. Scoring 42 goals in 49 games is a something not even the best strikers in the world can accomplish and Ronaldo did, so he really deserves this. Though i hope he could change his attitude a bit..

I have no quarrel with Ronaldo winning it, i think he deserves it. Torres like you rightly pointed out can feel hard done by but is in the running for it next year as i believe he will lead the pool to great things when fully back. The crisis at hand is all the tonic he needs to excel and he is made for these great things. If you doubt remember the euro final, his goal was magnificient. Borne out of sheer determination and absolute brilliance. He is the future here today for spain and liverpool.

Ronaldo deserves the award,i think he still the number one.
    Hurray……! Ronaldo
i think Ronaldo should be polite and humble a bit like Ronaldinho to enable him maintain his award next year.

Ronaldo, while he is the best player in the world at the moment, does not deserve to be idolised as he hasn’t made himself a role model. A ballor d’or winner must also show xter of the field, which ronaldo has not done. I think his problem is his pride… and that may just be the thing that brings him down.
