Rooney could yet stay at Old Trafford

The Mail Online understands that Wayne Rooney could yet remain at Old Trafford to see out the final year of his contract.

The thirty-one year old had been linked with a return to Everton, the club with whom he began his career though he would have to take a huge drop in his wages which currently stand at £250k per week.

Rooney is currently on holiday after not being included in Gareth Southgate’s squads for England’s forthcoming double header which kicks off with a World Cup Qualifier against Scotland on Saturday afternoon.

He only scored eight times for the Red Devils in all competitions, though his goal in the 1-1 draw with Stoke City back in January did see him surpass Sir Bobby Charlton to become the club’s all-time record goal scorer.

In total he has two hundred and fifty-three goals in five-hundred and fifty-nine games so far and has won no less than eleven major honours.
