Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney and Jonny Evans could miss Manchester United’s trip to Norwich on Saturday through injury.
The England forward is a doubt for the game at Carrow Road with an ankle injury picked up in United’s last game, a 3-2 win at Aston Villa, which also forced him to miss England’s 4-2 friendly defeat in Sweden.
Evans, meanwhile, was also forced out of international duty with a groin injury that saw him miss Northern Ireland’s 1-1 draw with Azerbaijan and could join Rooney on the sidelines.
However, there was better news for the Red Devils with Robin van Persie expected to be fit after a thigh problem while Javier Hernandez is expected to start after his match-winning exploits against Aston Villa last time out.
“We’ve still got some doubts about Wayne and Jonny Evans,” Ferguson told reporters.
“I think Robin should be fit. We’ll see what they are like today but there is a doubt.
“Phil Jones has been training all week. We will take him to Turkey (to play Galatasaray in the Champions League) with us. He’ll get part of it there, which is a good start for him.
“Bringing on Chicharito (at Villa) was good for us and he should start tomorrow.”
