Rooney fires United to League Cup win

Manchester United beat Aston Villa 2-1 here on Sunday to win the League Cup.

Wayne Rooney’s 28th goal of the season, 16 minutes from time, sealed the win after Michael Owen had cancelled out James Milner’s fifth-minute penalty for Villa.

The win ensured United, who beat Tottenham in last year’s final, retained a major cup for the first time in the club’s history.
