Rooney hopes Man Utd can continue winning streak during festive period

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is hoping the club can continue their winning ways during the upcoming festive period.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is hoping the club can continue their winning ways during the upcoming festive period.

United (9-4-3), fresh off a 3-0 win over bitter rivals Liverpool on Sunday, have won their last six English Premier League fixtures and now sit eight points behind title favourites Chelsea in the league table.

The Red Devils will face the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur before visiting the Britannia Stadium to take on Stoke City on New Year’s Day.

“It is still early days and we are getting better and better, the results are coming and the gap to the top is only eight points with a lot of games to go,” said Rooney, who has tallied six goals and three assists in 12 league appearances this term.

“I think Christmas is going to be a very important time for us.

“If we can keep picking up points and winning games, then hopefully the other teams will drop points and we can be right in there going into the second half of the season.

“I think we have to believe we can win the title.

“If we can win four games and the others have one bad result then there is nothing there.”

Many pundits have been critical of United’s performances during their current unbeaten run, but Rooney is just happy the Red Devils are finding a way to win.

“Some of the games haven’t gone the way we would like but we are winning them and that is a great quality to have,” added the England international.

“We won the league two years ago and we weren’t great in a lot of those games, but we got the results.”

Song wants to stay at West Ham

Cameroon international midfielder Alex Song, who is currently on loan at West Ham United, has revealed he wants to stay at Upton Park amid reports linking him with several clubs from France, Italy, and Turkey.

Song, one of the many great additions Sam Allardyce made to his squad this summer, has played a pivotal role for the Hammers in central midfielder this season.

Despite reported interest in his services from aboard, Song wants to stay at West Ham, and understandably so. After all, the in-form Hammers are currently in 4th-place in the Premier League.

“I want to stay here,” Song said.

“There were offers on the table from clubs in Italy, France and Turkey.

“People ask me why I joined West Ham, but I don’t regret it.”
