(GSM) – Werder Bremen striker Markus Rosenberg has signed a contract extension with the Bundesliga giants as a part of a loan move to Primera Division outfit Racing Santander.

The 27-year-old, who scored in Bremen’s dramatic aggregate victory over Sampdoria in the UEFA Champions Leagueplay-offs, will now spend the rest of the season with Racing.

The loan deal sees the former Ajax player tied with the Weserstadion outfit until the June of 2012.

Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs told the club’s official website: “This is a good solution for everyone involved.

“Markus is raring to grab first-team football and we were unable to guarantee that, although he scored a valuable goal in the Champions League qualifying lately and he has been in good form in training.

“We are certain to see him get a first-team place in Spain, where he will show all of his qualities.”

Rosenberg said: “This solution hands me a great opportunity with a good future ahead of me. I am sure I am going to be a stronger player when I return from this loan spell.”
