El-Hadji Diouf, the Senegalese and Bolton Wanderers forward could be on his way to Sunderland for a mere ₤2.5 million.
The twenty seven year old forward has only one year of his contract left at the Reebok Stadium but has expressed a desire to leave the club.
Rumours have it that he is due to have a medical at the Stadium of Light later today (Sunday).
Sunderlands manager Roy Keane has been busy during the off season in an effort to strengthen his squad.
He has been shopping mainly at Tottenham Hotspur where he has already secured the services of Teemu Tainio and Pascal Chimbonda and is keen on two more Spurs players, namely Steed Malbranque and Younes Kabul.
