(GSM) – FC Twente successfully defended their first place in the Dutch Eredivisie with a 3-0 win over Sparta on Saturday.

Twente were mostly inspired by Bryan Ruiz. The Costa Rican scored the opener on 46 minutes and went on to convert a penalty three minutes later. Milano Koenders caused the spot-kick and received his second yellow card for the offense.

And another minute later, Ruiz completed a stunning hat-trick for which he needed only four minutes.

AZ Alkmaar won the vital encounter with Heracles 3-2, despite their opponents being the better side throughout the match.

Jeremain Lens was the one that led AZ to victory. The attacking midfielder scored in the 40th and 64th minute, although that would not be enough quite yet as Darl Douglas got one back in the 72nd and Samuel Armenteros levelled seven minutes later.

AZ had the final say though and it was again Lens to beat goalkeeper Pieckenhagen in the 84th minute, 3-2.
