Rummenigge: Robben will stay

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has quashed rumours that Arjen Robben is prepared to leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season.

The winger was believed to be close to signing a new deal until 2015, but reportedly grew hesitant to commit his long-term future to the club after being slapped by Franck Ribery at half-time in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid in Munich.

And while club stalwart Uli Hoeness recently admitted he was unsure whether the 28-year-old would extend his contract, Rummenigge has claimed neither Robben or any of Bayern’s key figures will be sold at the end of the season.

“I guarantee that no stars will leave,” Rummenigge told Bild. “The agreement (with Robben) is as good as signed. Arjen will stay at Bayern in the long-term.”

Robben’s current deal is set to expire in 2013, but his extension is expected to add an additional two years.

In 33 games in all competitions this season, the Netherlands international has scored 17 goals and given nine assists.
